How to Delete Notebook in OneNote | Rename Notebook in OneNote

Microsoft Notebook tool is much easier to use and a great tool for both personal and professional information, kind of like a digital version of a multi-subject binder. You can use it for a long time as well because OneNote stores notebook files directly to OneDrive, so no way to lose your notes. However, but what happens when you no longer need a OneNote notebook? As we already mentioned; you cannot delete files from the OneNote desktop app, because OneNote stores notebook files directly OneDrive. Read and learn how to delete the notebook in OneNote.

If you want to permanently delete a OneNote notebook, there are few ways you can do it. OneNote generally uses OneDrive as the storage for notebooks, allowing you to sync your content between devices, but you can also save local notebooks if you’re using the desktop app.

You can manually delete a local notebook from your device by finding and deleting it in Windows File Explorer.

1. Open Window File Explorer and navigate to your Document folder. Once there, double-click to enter the OneNote Notebooks folder.

2. Right-click on the notebook you wish to delete, then click Delete to delete it.

Note: Your Notebook will remain in your recycle bin until your empty it, allowing you to restore it

Once you’ve set up your mind to delete a notebook in OneNote iPad or iPhone, follow the steps to do so. Deleting a notebook isn’t too difficult, but make sure if you do so.

1. Press the “Home” button below the touch-sensitive display of your iPhone and tap the “OneNote” icon to launch the OneNote app. 

2. Tap the icon of a home at the bottom of the display. Doing so will open the list of your notes. Tap the name of a note to open it. A list of the note’s pages appears.

3. Swipe your finger from left to right across the title of the page you want to delete. The deletion button appears to the right of the page’s name. Now, tap on the Delete button to remove the page.

To do this, you’ll have to actually remove the notebook folder you would like to delete in OneDrive. You can use PC, or download the OneDrive app from Play Store to login and remove the notebook folder.

After removing the folder, open the OneNote app on your Android phone and tap Notebook at the bottom.

Long press on the particular notebook in OneNote you wish to delete. Tap the Close This Notebook button which is located at the top. It will disappear, meaning the notebook has been completely deleted.

OneNote app or web is an online application and you can use it easily. Your notes will be saved in OneDrive directly, so when it comes to deleting the OneNote notebook from OneDrvie, make sure you back up them first. However, OneNote has many different methods that you can use to delete Notebook.

To delete the notebook, visit OneDrive.com and login with your Microsoft account. Then tap at your Documents folder>OneNote Notebooks. You’ll need to choose the OneNote notebook you want to delete, and then right-click on it hit Delete.

That’s it.

If you are a Mac user and you want to delete Notebook in OneNote Mac, bear in mind that you can only close any currently open notebook to remove it from your notebooks list in OneNote. You cannot delete an entire notebook in OneNote.

First, you need to close the notebook. In OneNote for Mac, go to any page of the notebook that you want to delete. On the menu bar, click Notebooks, point to Notebooks, and then hit Close This Notebook.

In case you are on Safari, visit onedrive.com on your web browser and sign in with the same Microsoft account where the notebook you want to delete is currently stored.

When you have successfully signed into OneDrive, navigate to the Documents folder for your account. Move the mouse pointer over the notebook you wish to delete, and then click to choose the small circle that appears next to or in the upper right corner of the notebook icon.

Here, you’ll see a small checkmark in the circle next to the notebook. Click Delete on the OneDrive menu bar.

Note: You might need to navigate to a different folder if the notebook was initially saved to a folder other than documents.

First, you’ll have to go to the notebook location in OneDrive. Go to OneDrive. Here, in the files section, tap on Documents. Navigate to the OneNote notebook that you’d like to rename, right-click it, and choose Rename.  In the rename dialog box, enter a new notebook name, and click Save.
